MUTING AND UNMUTTING. A specific user’s post (video posts) and photos can be muted so that they no longer appear on your main home feed. This is done by:
- Firstly, move to the home feed by tapping the home icon in the bottom menu and find the post of the user you want to mute in your main feed
- Secondly, tap the three dots in the top right of the user’s post
- Thirdly, tap mute from the list of options that appear
- Also, tap a mute post to confirm
- The user’s post disappear from your home feed
You can however view muted user’s posts by navigating to their profile. When you mute posts, they get removed from your home feed.
HOW TO UNMUTE A USER FROM THE STORIES FEED
Instagram makes it pretty easy for a person to unmute a user’s story in order to start seeing it in their feeds again. This is done by:
- Scroll to the very end of your stories feed and locate the transparent profile bubble of the user you want to unmute
- Tap and hold the user’s profile bubble
- Tap Unmute from the list of options displayed
- The user’s profile bubble will be restored in your stories feed
HOW TO UNMUTE A USER’S STORIES OR POSTS FROM THEIR PROFILE
One can actually unmute a user’s story and post from their profile by:
- Navigate to the muted user’s profile
- Tap the following button
- Also, tap Mute
- Turn the Stories button off so that they appear gray instead of blue.
HOW TO SEE WHO YOU HAVE MUTED
Instagram keeps a running list of your muted users in your privacy settings. Just in case you forget those or a particular person muted, you could check by
- Navigate to your profile by tapping your profile icon in the bottom menu
- Tap the menu icon in the top right corner
- Thirdly, tap Settings
- Fourthly, tap Privacy
- Also, tap Muted Accounts under connections
- Tap any user to go to their profile and optionally Unmute them
MUTING AND UNMUTTING. Muting a person on Instagram is generally considered a better option than blocking or unfollowing their posts since in muting their shared videos, photos, and other things they share, they will not notice that they have been muted.
You can also hide stories from certain users or followers in cases where you do not want them to see your stories. When this is done, they will be able to see your regular posts and interact with you but they will not see your stories appear in their story feed.
This is achieved by adjusting your settings:
- Tap Profile Icon
- Secondly, tap menu icon
- Thirdly, tap Settings
- Fourthly, tap Privacy
- Tap Story
- Also, tap Hide Story From, then tap the circle to the right of anyone you want to hide your story from
- Tap Done
