What Is Human Resource Management? – HRM

In case you are wondering, apart from recruiting and laying off, what is human resource management (HRM)?. Read on to know all about it.

What Is Human Resource Management?

Human Resource Management (HRM) is an arm within an organization that focuses on the recruitment and management of and offering direction and guidance for the people who work in an organization. The HRM department is also responsible for the processes that interact with customers and potential employees.Human Resource Management

Benefits of Having a Good Human Resource Management Team

The Human Resource department proffers knowledge, essential tools, training, administrative services, coaching, legal and management advice, as well as the talent management oversight which the rest of the organization needs for successful operation.

Some HR departments are responsible for organization development, which generates the culture of the organization. They are charged with oversight responsibilities to ensure that their organization appropriately builds teams as well as inspires employee empowerment.

The HR staff is also partially saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that the organization has an overall mission, vision, and values that are shared and offers an overarching reason for employees to feel motivated to work for their organization. These are inspirational elements that help employees feel as if they are a part of something that is bigger than themselves.

Other additional incentives sponsored by HR management can include employee and community outreach. These are frequent mentors and members of employee teams that address Philanthropic giving, employee engagement activities, as well as events that involve employee families.

Human Resource Management & Line Managers

Line managers can also perform HRM functions. The line managers are directly responsible for the engagement, contribution, as well as productivity of their reporting staff members. With a fully integrated talent management system, the managers play a key role in and take ownership of responsibility for the recruitment process. They also have the responsibility for the ongoing development of and retention of superior employees.

Organizations can also perform the functions of the HRM, and tasks by outsourcing various components to outside suppliers and vendors. Tasks that are most frequently outsourced are those that take HR time and energy away from the HR activities which offers the most strategic value to the company.

Some of the functions that are most frequently outsourced are payroll functions. Though, vendors and external consultants can help an organization with HRM in many ways. Most specifically, many HR departments outsource background checking, benefits administration, training like sexual harassment training, temporary staffing, as well as the production of employee handbooks, policy manuals, and affirmative action plans.

HRMs New Dimension

Since HRM is the organizational function that deals with or offers leadership and advice for dealing with all issues related to the people in an organization, as such, HRM deals with compensation, hiring, performance management, organization development, safety, wellness, benefits, employee motivation, communication, administration, and training.

Human Resource Management is also a strategic and comprehensive approach to managing people and the workplace culture and environment. An effective Human Resource Management Team enables employees to contribute effectively and productively to the overall company direction and the accomplishment of the organization’s goals and objectives.

The HRM function is now expected to add value to the strategic utilization of employees, and to also ensure that employee programs recommended and implemented impact the business in positive measurable ways.

Current Expectations of HRM

The new expectations of HR are to recommend processes, approaches, and business solutions which will improve the ability of the organization’s people to effectively contribute.

These new roles involve;

  • Strategic direction and HRM metrics and measurements to demonstrate their value.
  • Employees who work in Human Resource Management Team must of necessity, demonstrate their value by keeping their employer and company safe from lawsuits and the resulting workplace upheaval. They must be ready to perform a balancing act to serve all of an organization’s stakeholders, customers, executives owners, managers, employees, as well as stockholders.

The importance of a potent Human Resource Management Team in an organization cannot be overemphasized, because it is the bedrock on which most of the organization’s activities thrive.
